Authored by Assemblymember Isaac Bryan (D-Los Angeles), AB 1537 (No Side Jobs with ICE Act) would prevent local and state law enforcement from taking "side jobs" with ICE, DHS, or other entities, such as private corporations, engaged in immigration enforcement, closing a loophole currently found in state law. Backed by dozens of community and legal organizations from across the state, the bill comes after months of intensifying ICE activity and growing reports of lawless, reckless behavior on the part of federal agents that is often fatal. Meanwhile, the federal administration is putting $75 billion in taxpayer dollars toward an agenda of mass deportation and hate, including active, well-funded recruitment efforts and advertising specifically targeting local officers in California.
